Does the PACS provide dynamic negotiation of transfer syntax?

Yes! Connect Imaging opted for dynamic negotiation to ensure that PACS sends studies using the fastest method allowed by the receiving modality.

Why it matters: When one DICOM entity sends a study to another, the sender must present one or more transfer syntaxes to the receiver. The receiver chooses which transfer syntax to use. However, according to the DICOM standard, if the sender presents only one transfer syntax, that transfer syntax must be uncompressed transmission. That results in significantly longer transfer time.

When the sender presents several options, the receiver can choose the one best suited to the medium. Only then can the receiver accept lossless transmission, which shortens transfer time. A PACS with this option has dynamic negotiation. Dynamic transfer syntax negotiation guarantees that transfers will occur with any recipient, without the need for individually configuring the transfer syntax to be used.
