DICOM Distributor

Discription

One of the goals of Connect Imaging is to get the study where it is wanted, when it is wanted. The DICOM Distributor program is a critical module for achieving that goal. DICOM Distributor is one of the most powerful, most flexible, most configurable, and most scalable distribution programs for studies available.

Studies are received from any PACS via DICOM transfer, then stored in a local temporary storage. From the temporary storage, they are forwarded to recipients based on multiple configurable subscriptions. Because studies are stored in temporary storage, it is even possible to retroactively forward studies to recipients.

A separate Distributor Manager program is used to manage and configure one or more Distributor Engines, each running on a separate server. Through the use of multiple Distributor Engines, the system can be scaled to load balance over multiple machines and network connections.

Features and Benefits

  • Provides DICOM distribution of studies to recipients, selectable by study type and date/time. Maintains short-term local storage of studies received.
  • Uses rules to define subscription types.
  • Distributes prior studies along with current studies. Subscription types may include or exclude priors.
  • Subscriptions can be rapidly defined by choosing a predefined subscription type, a predefined recipient, and a subscription period. Subscriptions may be one-time, open-ended, or repeating. No limit on the number of subscriptions per recipient.
  • A near-live status display is provided of all current recipients and whether they have any studies currently in queue. Fault-tolerant operation allows send attempts to be retried indefinitely, without affecting other recipients.
  • Individual studies can be queued for any recipient (e.g. to send a study for consultation).
  • HIPAA logging is maintained for all studies distributed.
